There is little doubt that Google Wallet adoption will spike following Google’s unveiling last week of the new Gmail payments function, which relies on Wallet. Despite this, a little-known (we might say mysterious) wallet seems to be enjoying far greater interest and appeal among Android users. If you haven’t heard of Droid Wallet, you are not alone. Droid Wallet is the product, it seems, of someone named William Bruno, who also programmed an app called Strike Out Stats, which lets users track their bowling performance. Nevertheless, Droid Wallet has generated far better user scores than Google Wallet today. The alternative wallet has been downloaded more than 100,000 times compared to more than 5 million for Google Wallet. I stumbled upon Droid Wallet as I looked at Google Wallet’s page. There among the “Users who viewed this also viewed” section, tucked between Visa’s and American Express’s digital wallet, was Droid Wallet. Its users gave it an average of 4.3 stars vs. 3.2 for Google Wallet.
