P2P player Remitly is doing its best to help out those affected by the superstorm that hit the Philippines last week. The news coming out of the Philippines in the wake of the disaster is horrific. One of the strongest storms ever recorded, Typhoon Haiyan, known as Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, has left 3,000 or more dead, and hundreds of thousands without homes and in desperate need of food and shelter as more bad weather arrives. Overall, as many as 11 million people have been affected by the storm. The Republic of the Philippines is the world’s 13th most populous country. Remitly is a person-to-person payment service that specializes in sending money to the Philippines. As soon as the storm struck, the Seattle-based Remitly sprang into action, tweeting ways to help and posting messages on its site. CEO Matt Oppenheimer said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted by Super Typhoon Haiyan. We are urging friends to send donations to the Philippine Red Cross to help with relief efforts on the ground.
